Within hours of Pakistan calling off the NSA-level talks on Saturday evening, the Army intercepted three suspected terrorists in Handwara area of Kupwara district, who were killed after night long encounter early on Sunday. DIG, North Kashmir, Garib Dass, said the police and Army’s 21 RR and 6 Para cordoned off Kurhama forest in Handwara on specific information about the presence of militants in the area on Saturday night. “When the joint team began the combing operation, the militants hiding in the jungle began firing at the forces. The firing triggered the encounter leaving three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists dead while one soldier was injured,” DIG Dass told TOI. August 24, 2015 at 01:26PM
